Japanese Quiet

Original work informed by Japanese aesthetics of asymmetry, emptiness and imperfection.

Curator's statement

Japanese Quiet is guided by principles rather than motifs: asymmetry over symmetry, empty space as an active element, and the beauty of the imperfect and unfinished. Compositions are spare, off-centre and deliberately unresolved in places. Original contemporary work made in respect of an aesthetic tradition, not a reproduction of its historical art.

Design philosophy

Guided by principle, not motif: asymmetry, active emptiness, deliberate imperfection.

Colour system

Sumi black, rice paper, indigo, moss, clay, faded persimmon.

Shape language

Off-centre placement, active negative space, single imperfect gestures, natural edges.

Composition

Every piece must be a genuinely original composition. No imitation of an identifiable artist's distinctive style, no reproduction of an existing artwork, and never derived from another DALFASTART artwork. Treat the source culture with respect: no stereotypes, no sacred or ceremonial objects used decoratively, and no use of closed cultural practices. Suitable for international audiences and clearly an original contemporary interpretation rather than a traditional artefact.

Ideal spaces

Homes, tea and wellness spaces, minimal interiors, galleries.

1:1, 2:3, 3:4, A-series.
